In fact, for a gross design the results are the same as those obtain using ACI 318-08.

The following spreadsheet shows the calculation of a rectangular beam 60x60cm, following the same example used for AS3600.Taking in count AS3600, the main difference is due to the reduction factor phi. While in ACI 318-99 is 0.875 (pure bending moment is 0.9), AS3600 used 0.791 (pure bending moment 0.8).

Therefore, the results are the same for a phi = 1.
As = 4.71*0.8 = 3.768 cm2 (AS 3600)
As = 4.179*0.9 = 3.768 cm2 (ACI 318-99)

Download Spread sheet

Reinforced Concrete AS3600

To compute the reinforcement required by bending moment in a concrete section the main difference between codes, like ACI 318 and AS3600 is the reduction factor used . In ACI the reduction factor required is 0.9 (Section 9.3.2.1, ACI 318-08) however in AS3600 that value is reduced to 0.8 (Table 2.2.2, AS3600).

This is also related to the load factor combinations which are slightly different:
ACI 318 : 1.2 G + 1.6Q
AS 3600 : 1.2 G + 1.5Q

Where
G: Dead Load
Q: Live Load

Finally, in the following spreadsheet (PDF) it can be seen an example of the design of a rectangular concrete section, according AS 3600.

Download Spread Sheet (PDF)

The spreadsheet is also available in MathCAD. However, the results are presented in a RTF file, which is quite difficult to understand.
I developed Vhelp Spreadsheet to read the data delivered by Vhelp report, which is a RTF file. With this spreadsheet you can transform the data in tables presenting rate, percentage and volume data in an excel file.

Steps:

Download VHelp SpreadSheet

Save your report file in txt format or also called plain text. Just go to word and save as.

Go the the sheet called read and click in the Read Button.

Select the file and excel will read all the information

Now click in rate, m3 and percentage and go the respective sheets to see the graphs.

Enjoy.
